Winnipeg's outgoing police chief would like to see a homegrown replacement.
The police board has initiated a nation-wide search for the next chief.
Devon Clunis said the new chief needs to continue building relationships with the community, so he feels someone from within the Winnipeg Police Service would be ideal.
"In my heart of hearts, I know we have the leadership here,” Clunis said.
A job posting is set to go out in the next month, with an expectation the new chief will be hired in November.
