The newest residents of the Assiniboine Park Zoo’s polar bear conservation centre made their public debut on Friday.

Star and Blizzard, the orphaned female and male cubs, arrived at the zoo at the end of September. They have spent the last few weeks exploring the enclosure and adjusting to life in their new home.

The zoo held a naming contest for the cubs, allowing people on Facebook to vote on a list of names.

The zoo says the sibling cubs were spotted by a helicopter along the Hudson Bay coastline. Searchers tried to find their mother but couldn’t and it was decided the cubs should be brought to Winnipeg.
