NDP leadership candidate Theresa Oswald outlined a $3 million plan for post-secondary education on Sunday.

Oswald’s announcement included promises to extend no-interest student loans to part-time students, and to fund the provincial component of the transit UPass for students.

She also promised to pass legislation restoring multi-year funding agreements with post-secondary institutions.

Oswald is running for the leadership of the Manitoba New Democratic Party, along with Premier Greg Selinger and Thompson MLA Steve Ashton.

If elected leader, Oswald also said she would work with institutions and employers to create new internships, co-ops and work placements for students. She would also provide provincial funding to the National Research Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at the University of Manitoba to develop learning materials for schools focusing on indigenous knowledge and history.

Oswald said all her plans announced Sunday would cost $3 million initially, with additional costs as programs are phased in.
