Manitoba's personal care homes have been hit hard by the flu this winter.

According to the Winnipeg regional health authority, this year there have been 44 outbreaks of flu-like cases of which 38 are lab-confirmed.

The WRHA says, of the city's 39 personal care homes, 75 per cent have dealt with an outbreak.

They speculate the effectiveness of this year's flu shot has been low, because the virus mutated after the vaccine was selected.
