Downtown bar The Pint didn't exist the last time Winnipeg hosted a playoff hockey game.

This season it's become a gathering spot before, during and after games - a popular place to take in all the action as the Jets battle for a playoff spot.

The Pint’s Director of Operations Carmen Winkler can only imagine what the atmosphere would be like if the Jets actually make the playoffs.

"It's a long time coming. It took a while for the Jets to come back to Winnipeg so the city would explode."

Rudy's Eat and Drink has already laid out plans to turn their downtown patio into a playoff hub.

Owner Michael Schafer said the bar will set up big screen televisions outside for both home and away games if the Jets make it.

"Obviously everyone is on the fence, we're so close whether we're going to scrape in or not but I said we still have to be pre-emptive on actually planning because we’ve got to be ready the day it happens,” said Schafer.

The Downtown Biz is working with businesses to create a plan for the playoffs but can't reveal any ideas until we know if the team actually makes it.

The organization said if the Jets do make it they will promote downtown as a hub of activity for the playoffs.

With just a handful of regular season games remaining playoff fever has swept across the city, fans of all ages have felt the frenzy of a Jets team on the verge of ending a long playoff drought.

Playoff-starved fans last saw a post-season game in Winnipeg during the 1995-1996 season, before the Jets left for Phoenix.

"It's going to be electric I can only imagine what the playoff game is going to be like," said fan Dean Hinter when asked about the possibility.

"Hopefully we're going to bring back the whiteout, I feel we have to bring that back. I just think the building will explode," he said.

But that's not a priority for all fans Randy Magnusson said it's a thing of the past.

"We have our own special thing going here right now with the True North (chant),” said Magnusson. “I mean, yeah, it'd be nice to see that whiteout but this is 2.0."
