Police received a call regarding a suspicious package at a local business on the 500 block of Washington, near Watt, in East Kildonan Saturday.

Residents in nearby homes were asked to leave the area.

Police came to Margaret Sesak’s house twice to tell her to leave, but she would not evacuate her home.

“I’ve been here since 1958, but never seen anything like this,” said Sesak. “When it happens just a few doors from you, it is scary.”

She said she was surprised to see all the traffic, police and crews on scene and could not get a good night’s rest because of all the commotion.

One cruiser remains on scene Sunday, while other crews were there since 2 p.m. Saturday.

At one point during the investigation, police had their guns drawn.

The bomb squad armed their robot with a pipe filled with water. A fire platoon safety officer was on scene, along with several fire trucks.

The hazardous materials response unit and a major incidence response vehicle were also on scene.
