Winnipeg police are investigating a serious sexual assault that took place during daylight hours Friday.

Police said around 6:30 p.m., a 20-year-old woman was walking in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Isabel Street when an unknown man walked past her. The man made a comment before suddenly grabbing the woman’s arm and purse.

Police said the woman tried to break free, but the suspect became more aggressive and a serious sexual assault took place.

Someone in a vehicle saw the confrontation and began yelling out. Police said that’s when the suspect fled and the woman made her way home to call police.

The suspect is described by police as East Indian in appearance, in his mid-thirties, 6 foot 0 inches (182.88 cm) tall, large build, full beard, wearing a white baseball cap with a red logo on front, a dirty/torn t-shirt and white cargo shorts.
