The Winnipeg Police Service is warning Winnipeggers about a phone scam claiming to sell advertising in a non-existent police publication.

Police say they have received multiple complaints about the calls. In each instance, a male voice states that he is selling ad space in a publication called the ‘Winnipeg Police Service Magazine,’ ‘Winnipeg Police Service Association News,’ or something similar, police said.

The WPS says it doesn’t solicit funds over the phone. So far, no one has fallen for the scam, police said.

Anyone who receives a call like this can report it to the police non-emergency line at 204-986-6222. If anyone has given information to the caller, they should call police and their credit card provider.
