Thompson RCMP is continuing to search for Campbell Hunter, who went missing in December.

On Thursday, RCMP and employees from Sustainable Development Manitoba conducted a land search of the area surrounding Paint Lake.

Hunter, 67, was reported missing on Dec. 19, 2016 just after 3 p.m. RCMP said he was last seen around Nov. 10, 2016 in Thompson, Man.

With the snow now melted, RCMP said two teams of searchers combed the landscape.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner brought a cadaver dog to the search specially trained to assist in finding remains.

In a release, Thompson RCMP Sgt. Ben Sewell said, “We did not find Mr. Hunter, but I still count this search as a success. We have cleared an area. We can move onto other areas now.”

In December, RCMP said Hunter led an outdoor lifestyle: hunting and trapping in the wilderness, but did not stay out of touch for this long.

Police said he was known to travel to the Gimli, Man. area.

Hunter is described as indigenous, about 5-foot-four, with a slim build. He has short black hair with grey in it, and is missing his front teeth.

An investigation into his disappearance continues. RCMP said community groups, including people from Hunter’s home community of Nelson House, continue to work with police and conduct searches.
