The city of Selkirk came together to help support a local family yesterday.

Candace and Jason Schellenberg's daughter Brenna was recently diagnosed with brain cancer.

She's now going through rounds of chemo and will spend the next year at home taking daily medication.

Her parents asked a friend if she could sell some of the family's baby clothes to help raise funds.

Family and friends then created an event that took over an entire community centre.

"Friends and family kind of took this over for us. Everyone wants to help, it’s been great,” said Jason.

“We’ve been in the hospital the last eight weeks pretty solid, so we haven’t had a lot to do with this. It’s all been done by our amazing friends and family,” said Candace.

Both parents have taken time off work to care for their daughter, which has taken a financial toll on the family.

“Stuff like this means the world to us,” Candace said.

Family and friends also have a fundraiser social planned Oct. 1 at the Selkirk Golf and Country Club.
