A Winnipeg senior was attacked and beaten with a skateboard on Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called to a bus shelter on Portage Avenue near Raglan Road around 7:40 p.m.

They found the 63-year-old victim with multiple injuries. He told officers he was assaulted after he asked an unknown male to stop smoking inside the bus shelter.

He told police he was then knocked to the ground and assaulted in the upper body. Police say the suspect then picked up a skateboard and hit the victim several times.

Police released images of a person of interest in the case from Winnipeg Transit security camera footage, showing a man wearing a grey hoodie, Toronto Maple Leafs baseball cap and holding a skateboard.
