Responses are pouring into a Winnipeg city councillor’s website over odours plaguing St. Boniface.

On Tuesday Matt Allard launched Stbsmell.ca wanting to hear from residents on how odours in his ward are impacting their daily life.

St. Boniface is home to a mushroom plant, and meat packing and rendering facilities.

While people living there might be plugging and holding their noses at times, they’re not holding back on some of their complaints. Here’s a small sample:

  • “…sometimes it gets difficult to breathe…”
  • “…really quite difficult to enjoy a meal on the patio when the odour is so repulsive.”
  • “…creates a nasty nose cocktail. It prevents me from doing anything outside…”
  • “I'm forced to gag almost every day I drive past this area…”
  • “Bad smell that regularly makes me throw up when the wind is blowing…”
  • “…it smells like someone set a used diaper on fire!”

Allard said the responses are being forwarded to Manitoba Conservation, who can act on complaints to work with the companies to mitigate the odours.
