A snapped hydro pole forced 21 people from their apartment and six people from a rooming house.

Two buildings, 458 and 464, on Spence Street were evacuated as a result of a garbage truck hitting a hydro pole. The snapped pole was leaning and in danger of crashing into the buildings.

Fire department was on scene, as well as a transit bus to house the people evacuated.

Manitoba Hydro said power should be restored to customers in the area by 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Power was lost to 1,200 people while the pole was being replaced.
