After shutting its doors two years ago, the Dalnavert Museum welcomed its first visitors during a sneak peek Saturday.

The museum is officially reopening in June, but took part in the Doors Open event this weekend showcasing over 80 historical buildings and sites in Winnipeg.

During its closure, many people worried the museum would be closed for good; but dedicated community supporters helped keep the project alive.

The heritage building is a designated national historic site. It was built in 1895 for the son of Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald.

Be one of the first to explore the lavishly restored 1895 home since its closure in September of 2013.

Admission is free all weekend. For more information on the various sites included in the Doors Open Winnipeg event, head to their website.
