Filipinos in Winnipeg gathered for a church service to remember dozens of police commandos killed in the Philippines. People filled the Filipino Seniors Hall on Euclid Avenue Sunday morning.

The mass was held for the 44 members from the Philippine National Police Special Action Force in the Philippines who died in a gun battle with a rebel group.

The country's president has ordered a hunt for a Filipino terror suspect who escaped an anti-terrorist operation.

The attack is being called the country's biggest single-day combat loss in recent years. The killings are also threatening to derail a peace deal with Muslim rebels.
