One of Manitoba’s winter-forecasting groundhogs is embarking on a new tradition.

Instead of looking for Winnipeg Willow’s shadow, handlers from the Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre will use different criteria to determine how long winter will stick around.

The group said they will decide based on how active she is.

If she is tired or sleeping, that will mean six more weeks of winter. If she is moving and busy, that will signify an early spring.

CTV asked for some hints on how she has been behaving lately. The centre responded, saying, "She hasn't been doing her predictable behaviour."

The Ground Hog Day event runs from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. inside Cabela’s. The public is welcome to attend.
