A new cycle of violence has erupted in Gaza following the collapse of the latest peace talks, but that isn't stopping a Winnipeg group from leaving on an intensive visit to Israel.

Twenty people, including Norway House First Nation Chief Ron Evans, are on their way to Israel for a solidarity mission.

During the five-day trip they will visit bomb shelters, meet with an organization supporting widows and orphaned children, and bring gifts to injured soldiers.

The mission’s organizer Michael Aziza said they hope the trip will show Israelis that Canadians stand with them and care about what is happening.

“We've held rallies in Winnipeg. Rallies have been held all over the world. We want to hold rallies in Israel. Canadians going to Israel and showing Israelis that we are united with them and that we support them," said Aziza.

The group has rallies planned in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem.
