Winnipeg police are mourning the death of a canine service member.
Police service dog Riley died Tuesday, after a battle with cancer.
Police said Riley joined the service out of its in-house breeding program and was raised by his partner, Constable Jeff Katcher, from 12 weeks of age.
They completed their training and began working as a team in September 2012.
Police said Riley was a general patrol dog, trained in narcotic detection as well as being assigned to the Tactical Support Team.
He was five years old at the time of his passing.
