Accused letter bomber Guido Amsel was back in front of a Winnipeg judge Wednesday for the second part of his bail hearing.

Originally, Judge Heather Pullan said the decision would be announced on Friday, Sept. 4; but later, she said the hearing would likely need more time.

Pullan listened to submissions from the Crown and defence last Thursday, but time ran out before defence lawyer Martin Glazer finished his submission last week so a second day was held on Sept. 2.

The Crown, represented by lawyer Chris Vanderhoof, said it would oppose Amsel’s release.

Amsel, 49, faces more than a dozen charges, including three counts of attempted murder, after three explosive devices were sent to three different Winnipeg businesses.

One of those arrived at the Petersen King law office. Family lawyer Maria Mitousis opened the device on July 3, 2015 and was seriously injured.

She lost her right hand and has extensive injuries to her left hand and upper body.

Mitousis had worked as a lawyer for Amel’s ex-wife in a civil matter.

The bail hearing is subject to a publication ban, meaning that nothing said during court can be reported.

Amsel has been in custody for more than 60 days now, with about a week of that spent in isolation in Headingley jail.

“He’s anxious to get home and be with his children. One of his children’s birthdays is next week. He’s anxious to get back to work. This is all a nightmare for him a man with no (criminal) record who maintains his innocence,” said Glazer outside of court on the first day of the bail hearing on Aug. 27.
