The mother of an indigenous woman missing in Manitoba for years, has come to Winnipeg to help find another missing relative.

Bernice Catcheway, mother of missing Jennifer Catcheway, was in the city Saturday to hand out posters with information about her missing cousin, Christopher Guimond.

“We’re here [at Polo Park], we have posters and we want to get the message out there that Christopher is still out there and it’s important that we find him,” said Catcheway, flanked by relatives and friends.

Guimond was last seen on his way to Polo Park shopping mall on April 7.

Catcheway said she had to travel to Winnipeg to help. Her daughter, Jennifer, disappeared from Portage la Prairie in 2008 and still has not been found.

“Time is of the essence. We need to bring Chris home,” she said.

Catchway described her 48-year-old cousin as a “family man, a good man.” Guimond’s mother, Dorothy Starr became emotional as she appealed for her son’s safe return.

“Chris please come home if you see this, we just want you home,” said Starr.

The family said he was known to frequent the St. James area and Siloam Mission. They said he had addiction problems in the past, but is sober now and settled in a stable relationship.

Guimond is described as aboriginal, 5 feet 9 inches tall (175.26 cm), 200 pounds with a heavy build and short brown hair.

He was last seen wearing a black spring jacket, a grey hoody, blue jeans and brown running shoes.

Police said they are concerned for his well-being, and that they support families helping in the search for missing loved ones so long as it’s done safely.
