Police confirmed their investigation near St. Malo where Kevin Runke's body removed from a vehicle on Monday is linked to the St. Boniface murder case of his ex-wife Camille Runke.

Police found Kevin alone in the car with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on scene.

The Winnipeg police's tactical unit and RCMP's emergency response team were there due to concerns that Kevin was armed.

Police said officers saw Kevin's car at around 11:00 a.m. Monday and tried to stop it. It veered off the road and into a wooded area.

Investigators had been looking for Kevin, as they considered him a "person of interest" in Camille's murder.

Camille was shot and killed outside her St. Boniface workplace early Friday morning.

She had a protection order against her ex-husband, Kevin.

On July 24, 2015, courts granted Camille the order after she told the court police were called to her home because of an incident involving some damage to her property.

When asked if the man involved had a weapon at the time, she wrote: “It looked like an air gun.”

When Camille was asked if her ex-husband had access to weapons she replied: "He has a rifle."

The 49-year-old woman also wrote: "He’s been stalking my home and my vehicle has been compromised; cut belts and hoses.”

When asked why she applied for the order, she wrote: “I fear what he will do next.”

The order prevented Kevin from being within three blocks of Awards Canada and Camille’s home.

Kevin also filed for a protection order against Camille, but it was dismissed on July 10, 2015.

The homicide unit is continuing to investigate Camille’s death.

The death of Kevin is being investigated by the Independent Investigations Unit of Manitoba.
