The R.M of Headingley is now connected to Canada’s national emergency alert system.

The alert system is in place to automatically notify residents of imminent danger by sending emergency alert messages to local smartphones.

New Winnipeg-based technology called Connect-By-All-Net has made the alerts possible.

Connect-By All-Net connects to Canada’s national emergency alert system to access emergency alerts, and then sends the messages to smart phones.

“All emergency alert messages are now automated and do not require any manual input from local officials,” the company said in a news release

Any alert messages issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada, The RCMP and federal and provincial officials automatically go out to affected communities.

Municipal offices also can send out follow-up messages to a resident’s phone at any time.

Until now, a municipal office needed to manually send out an alert of danger. With the new technology, alerts can go out automatically 24 hours a day.

The R.M of Headingley app can be downloaded using iTunes or Google Play.
