Residents had an early wake up call Tuesday morning at the Knights Centre Senior Apartments in Selkirk, Manitoba.

Fire crews responded to a call in the 300 block of Sophia Street in Selkirk around 4 a.m. Tuesday.

When they arrived, they found a fire on a third floor balcony which they were able to contain.

Fire officials said the resident was home at the time. She heard a “pop” before leaving her suite safely.

No one was sent to hospital and everyone was able to evacuate the apartment building with no difficulties.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Damages are estimated at up to $50,000.

Fire officials said the senior’s home is well constructed with a sprinkler system.
