A 40-foot spruce tree grown in North Kildonan was chosen as the centerpiece to City Hall’s holiday display.

The city said the Colorado spruce will arrive Sunday. It was donated by North Kildonan residents Gail and Gerald Bordian.

“We moved here in 1989 and the tree was about 10 feet tall at that time. My son would climb up on a ladder to decorate it with Christmas lights,” said homeowner Gail Bordian.

“Over the years it’s grown too big, so we decided to donate it to city hall for their Christmas tree.”

The tree will be cut and lifted by crane from the home on Louelda Street. It will be transported on a flatbed truck to City Hall and positioned by a crane, the city said.

A crew from the city’s Urban Forestry Branch will spend days decorating the tree with over 9,000 multi-coloured LED lights.

The ceremonial lighting of the tree will be on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.
