Winnipeg police have released the name of a woman killed in a stabbing on Sunday.

Around 5:30 a.m. on July 22, police were called to the 500 block of Furby Street.

Witnesses said a woman had been stabbed.

Police said a 20-year-old female was found injured at the scene. Paramedics rushed her to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

On Monday, police identified the victim as Cherie Lynn Richard, 20, of Winnipeg.

Officers said an investigation showed the victim and another woman had been in the area when they were approached by a male and two other women. A verbal altercation broke out and the victim was stabbed, said police.

The suspects fled.

Officers continue to investigate and have not yet announced any arrests.
