CTV has confirmed police have located the person of interest in two weekend homicides.

Police released the names Monday of two men found murdered on the weekend at separate locations in downtown Winnipeg.

Officers identified the man found dead early Saturday behind 329 Portage Avenue as Donald Collins, 65. Police also identified the man found dead, hours later, nearby behind 333 Portage Avenue as Stony Stanley Bushie, 48. Both men are from Winnipeg.

Police believe one suspect is responsible for both killings, just hours apart from late Friday night into Saturday.

Investigators from the Winnipeg Police Service taped off part of the lane behind Siloam Mission in the city’s core Monday morning.

Multiple dumpsters were sealed, loaded on to a flatbed truck and taken away.

Replacement dumpsters were then brought in for the mission to use.

Police would not directly confirm the activity is related to the two homicides on the weekend.

While Winnipeg police did not answer questions about what officers hoped to find in the dumpsters, officers released a video update on YouTube.

"It is reasonable for the public to expect to see officers connected to the investigation working in various locations within the downtown area of the city, especially alleys or laneways with pedestrian traffic,” said Const. Rob Carver with Winnipeg police.

On the weekend, police released video images of a person of interest in the case.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact officers at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.

Siloam Mission also released a statement Monday.

“Based on police information, both gentlemen were known to have experienced homelessness. They had not relied on Siloam’s services, however, and were not familiar to staff," said Siloam.

“This has been stressful and uncertain for our community,” said Dan Maxson, director of operations for Siloam Mission. "Although we did not know these gentlemen, our hearts go out to those who cared for and loved them. We urge all to keep them all in their prayers.”

Police have not ruled out the possibility that another homicide from earlier this month is also connected to the two most recent killings. In that earlier case, another homeless man, 37-year-old Myles Monias, was killed in a bus shelter on Main Street.

Police have not identified any suspects in that case.
