Officers said some businesses have been receiving calls from people pretending to be associated with Winnipeg Police Service or Winnipeg Police Association.

Officers said the callers ask businesses to buy advertising space in an upcoming publication or magazine.

“The Winnipeg Police Service would like to remind businesses and individuals that if you receive a telephone call requesting money to support a local charity or a not-for-profit agency to ask for the information to be sent to you in writing,” said officers in a release.

“Legitimate charities and organizations will have no problem giving you this information and they do not request credit card or personal information over the phone,” police said.
