A heavy police presence took over Osborne Village Monday evening after a routine traffic stop took a dramatic turn.

Dozens of officers blocked off an alley near a restaurant in the Village with cruisers and unmarked police cars.

Winnipeg police said it was a routine traffic stop at Osborne Street and Gertrude Avenue, when the driver of a vehicle fled on foot.

He ran into a restaurant, Carlos & Murphy’s, where he was eventually found hiding in a washroom.

Officials evacuated the restaurant as a precaution, just before they took him into custody.

No one was injured.

Police said they didn't find any weapons and still don't know what prompted him to run.

Officials said there were other people in his vehicle who were being also questioned.
