A great horned owl is flying free, after quite the ordeal at a Winnipeg school.

He was released back into the wild Tuesday.

It all began about two weeks ago, when he became tangled in a sports net at Shamrock School.

Staff at the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre were called in to cut him loose.

But unfortunately, he suffered soft tissue damage to his wing.

They’ve been nursing him back to health, and on Tuesday, he was able to spread his wings again and return to the wild.

Carefully, he was taken back to the school field where he was found, so he could be returned back to the wild, much to the delight of students and staff who looked on.

Wildlife experts believe he'll spend some time getting re-aquatinted with his surroundings, before going back to the business of being an owl in the wild.
