Officers in Winnipeg believe they may have the names of people seen on a surveillance video released after a poppy donation box went missing.

The video shows a couple walk into a Shell on St. Mary’s Road and ask to use the phone. While the clerk’s attention is diverted, the poppy box is taken

The manager of the store said there was only about $20 in the box, but that money is meant to help veterans.

After the story aired on CTV Winnipeg on Thursday, a number of viewers contacted the newsroom, with one person saying they’ve made a donation to the Royal Canadian Legion to match the money believed to be missing.
