Heather Bays, a Winnipeg photographer living in Toronto, says she her Instagram account was taken down Sunday after posting a breastfeeding photo.

Though Instagram has rules about nudity and sexually-explicit content, she said many photos on the site show more skin than the photo she posted on the online site.

A Canadian representative from Facebook, which owns Instagram, said most breastfeeding photos are allowed. The policy indicates “the vast majority of these photos are compliant with our policies.”

However, the company reviews photos when other Instagram members report them.

Bays said she later learned the company will restore her account.

An Instagram spokesperson issued a statement Tuesday.

“Breastfeeding photos are allowed on Instagram, although those that also contain nudity are not. Accounts may be temporarily disabled by our automated systems, but are quickly restored upon further review. We realize this might cause a temporary inconvenience, but it is an important safeguard for our community," said the spokesperson.
