OmniTrax management was greeted by picket signs as they arrived for meetings in Winnipeg with the bargaining team representing laid-off Port of Churchill workers.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada, which represents the port’s workers, said OmniTrax management was in town Wednesday from Denver, CO.

The union said OmniTrax was meeting with its bargaining committee for the first face-to-face meeting since the layoffs.

Supporters picketed outside the meeting on Lombard Avenue, carrying signs that read ‘#SupportOurPort’ and ‘We Support Churchill’.

Pink slips were handed out to about 70 port employees in July after OmniTrax announced the shipping season was canceled and the building would be shut down.
