Winnipeg police held a community forum Tuesday night to spread awareness about the dangers of guns and gangs.

They hope to prevent, deter and reduce gang related offenses in the city.

The idea is to offer ideas and encouragement to people directly affected by gang activity.

"Reach out for help.  We're in the community all the time,” said Insp. Max Waddell.

The police also want people to report any information they may have about illegal guns and gangs. To encourage that, Crime Stoppers will be doubling the amount of money it pays for information about gang members who have guns.
