Police are investigating a homicide after a shooting on Saturday. Police identified the victim as 27-year-old Geoffrey Oliver Reid.

Heavily armed police and paramedic units surrounded a home in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue near Ellen Street around 5:00 p.m. They found Reid suffering from a gunshot wound.

Residents say they saw a commotion around a black truck before police arrived.

"I believe they started giving CPR to someone in the back,” said Larry Spence. “I wasn't too sure, I seen some motions that could be relevant to that, and then from there on I guess more cops started showing up and they taped off the block."

Reid was taken to hospital in critical condition but he later succumbed to his injuries.

The area around Pacific and Ellen was blocked off for hours. The police investigation led to a house in the 300 block of Alexander Avenue, where police belive the shooting occurred.

After being shot, Reid fled the house and was later found on Pacific Avenue, police said.

Sources tell CTV that the victim of the shooting is a gang member.

"We have made contact with individuals who were present, and we interviewing those individuals," said Const. Jason Michalyshen. "So we're not at a point to start providing details regarding that address or the victim's association with that address.  All we're saying at this point is the deceased was present at that location."

Police are waiting for the results of an autopsy. The homicide unit is investigating.

Reid was previously arrested in 2010 after an incident in which he was shot during a confrontation with police. Police said at the time a male suspect armed with a gun in the 500 block of Alexander Avenue got out of a vehicle and confronted officers on July 21, 2010.

Reid was found a week later in a house on Maryland Street, suffering from an untreated gunshot wound.
