A man died after police found him lying unconscious on the street near Cumberland Avenue and Spence Street early Saturday morning.

Police were called to the scene around 1:40 a.m. A passer-by saw the man and called emergency services.

Police say the man’s injuries appear suspicious. They are waiting for the results of an autopsy.

David Gaumond lives in a house near where the stabbing occurred. When Gaumond stepped out of his house early Saturday morning, he said he saw the victim and a woman who was trying to help.

“I noticed a man, probably around 60 years of age, had multiple stab wounds in the back, and when I flipped him over, he had multiple stab wounds in the front,” said David Gaumond.

“It’s pretty sickening that it would happen to an older guy like that.”

Police have not yet identified the man. The Homicide Unit is investigating.
