Winnipeg police addressed the media Thursday morning, to get a message across directly to Sandra Giesbrecht, the mother of two kids who went missing from a party, Monday night.

“I want you to know that you’ll be supported, I understand you’re in a difficult situation,” said Sgt. Shaunna Neufeld with the Winnipeg police. “Lots of families and good people like you go through similar situations and there is a way to create an answer.”

Police said 11-year-old Montana and 9-year-old Josh were last seen in the St. James area near Lumsden Avenue.

Neufeld was reaching out to Giesbrecht directly, touching on her own personal life.

“I’m a mother too, Sandra of three children and I know the unconditional love that you have for your children,” she said. “Sandra you have to beautiful children, Montana and Josh and I know there is a way for us to quickly create a win-win here. A win that’s going to be put everyone’s interests at heart.”

On Wednesday, police said the children are believed to be with their mother, Sandra Giesbrecht, and the case is being treated as a possible abduction.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for the arrest of Giesbrecht.

"While police are not concerned necessarily for the well-being of the children, they are considered missing at this point and we do need to locate them," Const. Rob Carver told reporters on Tuesday.

Police must have reason to believe a child is in imminent danger before issuing an Amber Alert.

Montana was last seen wearing a yellow Minions t-shirt, a white blouse over top and black Capri leggings.

Josh was last seen wearing a dark blue sweater over top of a gray t-shirt with a basketball picture on it and blue sweatpants.

Police said the children were last seen leaving the home of a caregiver and getting into a white four-door vehicle, while accompanied by someone known to them.

Winnipeg police are working with the RCMP on the search effort, and are considering the possibility the children may have been taken out of the province.

Police concerned about the wellbeing of the children, but do not believe there is a safety concern.

On Thursday morning, Neufeld mentioned that she has been trying to connect with Giesbrecht since the children went missing.

“Sandra I’ve reached out to you the past couple days and I’ve asked you to get in touch with me in a way that you feel comfortable so that we can talk about how to move forward and resolve things,” said Neufeld. “I’m asking, Sandra, for you to connect with me so we can work this out and talk.”

Police are asking anyone with information to call the missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.
