Police dubbed it project sideshow, but heavily armed tactical officers were the main attraction in several Winnipeg neighbourhoods Wednesday morning.

Police made at least a dozen arrests in the coordinated raids in St Vital, the Exchange District and the North and West Ends.

"We just came outside and we seen someone in the back of the car so we figured something,” said Dallas Manulak, who saw the action unfolding on Market Avenue.

“We didn't really know what was going on, really. We seen another cop come out and they said something about a search warrant."

Winnipeg police said little publicly Wednesday, instead promising an update on the investigation next week.

Sources told CTV News the investigation targeted alleged cocaine traffickers and included cooperation from the RCMP and police in British Columbia.

In addition to the arrests, police armed with search warrants also seized property, including a car from a home on Dominion Street.

Police said more arrests could be coming. Some of the accused will make initial court appearances on Thursday.
