Winnipeg police have released the name of a 49-year-old man who was killed in St. Boniface Friday night.

Orland Joseph Adams was found badly beaten in a home in the 500 block of St. Catherine Street just before 10 p.m. He was rushed to hospital but later died, police said.

"The investigation is currently ongoing by members of the homicide unit,” said Const. Eric Hofley of the Winnipeg Police Service.

Officers remained on scene in the area Saturday afternoon, taping off three homes.

Area resident Georgette Franks said seeing the large police presence was concerning. “When they put the yellow ribbons up we knew something drastic had happened, it's not good to have this on our street,” said Franks.

Residents in the area said the man who lived in the home also lived with a woman who was close to his age. They said the pair didn’t get along well with their neighbours.

Officers are still looking for leads in the case. “(The homicide unit is) asking anyone with information regarding this incident, be it having seen suspicious persons and or vehicles at the time of the incident to contact them,” said Hofley

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 204-896-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.

Adams' murder marks the 29th homicide in Winnipeg in 2012.
