Winnipeg police responded to a shooting incident in the West End Tuesday night.

Emergency crews arrived outside a duplex in the 500 block of Spence Street near Sargent Avenue around 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.

One person nearby says they heard three loud shots fired. Some neighbours say they saw a person flee the home shortly after that.

Police confirmed that two males were in the residence when one shot the other in the lower body.

A 35-year-old male was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He has since been upgraded to stable condition. Another person was taken into police custody.

Spence Street was blocked to traffic Tuesday night between Ellice Avenue and Sargent Avenue while police investigated. Part of Young Street was also behind police tape.

Winnipeg police say members of the Homicide Unit are continuing to investigate.
