Winnipeg police say a poster advertising mobile outreach services by people driving a large black van, and subsequent warnings about predatory behaviour associated with the vehicle appear to be a hoax.

The poster has been widely circulated on social media.

It has a picture of a van and says it offers food, clothing, and medical services to people on Winnipeg streets.

A Facebook post warning the public that the people in the van pose a danger to youth has been shared thousands of times.

“This matter appears to be a hoax but despite this, the Winnipeg Police service is requesting that citizens not approach or accept services by persons associated to this particular van and/or poster," said Const. Jason Michalyshen.

A white van clearly marked with the words Street Connections does offer legitimate outreach services and is associated with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
