A relay marking 100 years of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry will make its way through Winnipeg Thursday.

About 50 soldiers from the PPCLI are running the relay, which is re-tracing the symbolic route taken by the PPCLI originals as they marshaled for service in 1914 on the eve of the First World War.

The relay hits Winnipeg Thursday morning. It will start at the Canadian Tire on Portage Avenue at 10:00 a.m. The runners will move from there to Brookside Cemetery, down Sgt. Tommy Prince Street, across the Arlington Bridge to the Valour Road memorial.

There will be a memorial service at the cenotaph downtown at 2:00 p.m. with a public reception on the Legislative grounds to follow.

Motorists can expect delays from support vehicles and are urged to be careful when driving near soldiers.

The relay wraps up in Ottawa September 18.
