Winnipeg is now home to the city's first parking protected bike lane.

The dedicated bike lane is on Sherbrook Street between the Maryland Bridge and Cumberland Avenue.

The parking-protected bike lane separates cyclists from vehicle traffic by putting the lane between the sidewalk and a barrier for parked cars. The lane extends from Wolseley Avenue to Broadway.

Cyclists said the lane makes them feel safe because they no longer have to look over their shoulder for vehicles while drivers also say the lane helps make their drive easier.

The rest of the bike lane will be a buffered curb side bike lane which is separated by traffic by two white painted lines on roadways. This portion of the lane extends from Broadway to Cumberland.
