In anticipation of north winds blowing at up to 55 km/h beginning Tuesday morning, the province issued high wind alerts for Lake Winnipeg and parts of Lake Manitoba.

The high winds are not expected to subside until Wednesday afternoon.

In a news release, the province said the high winds could raise water levels on the south shores of the lakes by up to 1.5 metres and could also create significant wave action.

According to the province Lake Manitoba is currently at 813.95 feet and the south shore of Lake Winnipeg was last measured at 714.92 feet.
