Members of the chief veterinary office seized about 10 horses due to concerns about the care, health and well-being of the animals, said the province.

The animals were seized on Jan. 14 in the RM of Lakeview, on the west side of Lake Manitoba.

“The animals are now under the care of the chief veterinary officer (CVO). The owners have seven days (until Monday, Jan. 21) to file a notice of objection to the seizure. This means the horses cannot be sold or given away until any appeal is decided,” said the province in a statement.

The province said anyone who believes an animal is lacking adequate water, food, shelter or medical attention is encouraged to contact the Animal Care Line at 1-204-945-8000. Calls are kept confidential and all calls will be investigated, said the province.
