A woman had her purse stolen off her shoulder Sunday morning in the West End, Winnipeg police said.

Police said around 10 a.m. a woman called police saying that she had been robbed in the 500 block of Sargent Ave.

The woman said she was approached by three men who grabbed her purse from her shoulder and then grabbed a second purse from a vehicle she was standing next to.

Police said the woman chased the men before one pulled out a knife and punched the woman in the face. With the help of two bystanders, the woman was able to recover both purses.

Investigators said two of the suspects are described as white, approximately 40-years-old and five-foot-nine to six feet tall. There is no information on the third suspect involved.

Police said anytime there is a concern for public safety members of the public should avoid chasing after a suspect.

“She did chase after the males, which we wouldn’t advise. It’s a purse, its contents, in the bigger picture, concern for your safety should be number one,” said Const. Tammy Skrabek.

Police continue to investigate anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219.
