ROSEAU RIVER, Man. - Manitoba RCMP confirm they are investigating the homicide of a 14-year-old boy on Roseau River First Nation.

Mounties say the Dakota Ojibway Police Service got a call about a body outside the reserve's school early Sunday afternoon.

RCMP haven't identified the victim, but family and the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs have said the boy was Hyde Hayden.

RCMP say they are not releasing the cause of death but say it is being treated as a homicide.

Grand Chief Derek Nepinak, with the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, says the 14-year-old was found behind the school on the reserve.

He says the loss of a young person is tragic and "never acceptable."
