RCMP seize contraband cigarettes with estimated value of $150,000 during traffic stop

Police pulled over a pickup truck on Dec. 20 that was towing a rental trailer and found 980,000 cigarettes inside it, said RCMP.

Powerview RCMP pulled over the truck and trailer shortly after 1 p.m. Dec. 20.

A 32-year-old man from Fort Alexander and a 52-year-old man from Winnipeg face charges of possession of contraband tobacco under the Excise Act.

Manitoba Finance said the men will also be facing charges under the Manitoba Tobacco Tax Act and Miscellaneous Taxes Act.
