A unique event saw refugees from around the world who now call Winnipeg home get together and share their stories.

Hosted by Canadian Lutheran World Relief, the event brought together people who arrived in Canada as refugees during the second world war along with others who came only recently.

Organizers dubbed the get-together the Beaverbrae Reunion, naming the event after a ship that brought more than 33,000 people to Canada from Europe between 1948 and 1954.

The Winnipeg event was held in conjunction with similar functions across the country.
