People living in the Armstrong Point neighbourhood of Winnipeg packed a Winnipeg courtroom in their fight against a school expansion.

The residents are arguing City planners and councillors who approved a 4,700 square foot addition broke city rules.

The neighbours say the expansion to the Westgate Mennonite Collegiate will impact parking and increase traffic in the area because the project will lead to higher enrollment.

Lawyers for the City argue no rules were broken. Officials with the school say they need to expand for their band program and say they don’t plan to hike enrollment.
