The Royal Winnipeg Ballet says local authorities recently advised the company that one of its faculty members, Bruce Monk, was under investigation.

The RWB said it immediately Monk on paid administrative leave, to ensure the safety and well-being of its students and any concerned parties.

Wednesday night, the RWB announced it will no longer be associated with that individual.

Winnipeg police said complaints have been made that nude and semi-nude pictures of teenage female students were taken in the 1980s and 90s.

They have not confirmed that Monk is the subject of the investigation.

"There are multiple victims involved. But again, we are not only completing our investigation - we're also consulting with justice officials to determine how we will proceed from here,” said Const. Jason Michalyshen from Winnipeg police.

Bruce Monk had a long association with the RWB.

A former dancer, Monk was also a teacher in the professional division since 1987.

And he is an award-winning dance photographer who snapped photos of dancers for years.

"We're aware of the ballet shots. We deal with a very visual medium. But this was a total surprise,” said Jeff Herd, executive director of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.

The RWB said it will speak with all current students to see if they have any concerns they need to share.

But, it says it’s confident nothing else will come forward.

None of the allegations against Bruce Monk have been proven in court and he denies any wrongdoing.
